“SNOW” Peas
What should be beautiful green rows of spring peas is now covered with an icy blanket of snow. Yesterday snowfall closed two main highways into Lake County. I think we had about 5 inches of snow in 3 hours here at Love Farms. We had to shovel the driveway to get in and out. This morning all that did not melt in the rainy drizzle last night has turned to ice. But the sun is out! The air is so crisp and clean.
Thirteen Tons and What do you Get!
Thanks to Mary for about 200 bales of old rotten hay from her ranch in Finley. Each bale was saturated with rainwater and weighed nearly 150 pounds! So we actually moved about 13 tons of rotten hay. (Instead of coal!) We used the tractor to load each bale onto the flat bed trailer for the ride back home to the farm. Here the hay will be mixed with chicken and horse manure. The mixture will be kept moist and allowed to rot away into compost for the garden. Here you can see the bales where they lay after being shoved off of the trailer. With the snow they look a little like 150-pound “Frosted Mini Wheats”.
Green House Project
The greenhouse kit was ordered on Monday February 21st. Delivery should be some time the first week of March. Here is a picture of the style house that will be constructed. The sidewalls will be 6 feet tall. The entire house will be 20 feet wide and 50 feet long. Thanks to so many who have partnered in this project. Barbara, Chloe, Denise, Deb, Joe, Mom, Judith & Leonard, Ken, Lori, Luann, Marilyn, Roberta & JT, Ross, Scott, Sean, Thurston, Rick, and Veronica. The first step will be to level an area to erect the structure. Then the fun begins. As soon as the ground dries out a bit we will get started.
